Ford Fiesta ST

- The Fiesta ST -

The Ford Fiesta is the UK's best selling car of all time and it sadly ended its 47-year career in June of 2023. It is truly an icon of the automotive industry and will be extremely missed.

Over the years, there have been 7 generations of the Fiesta. The name, translating from Spanish meaning 'Party', is a good representation of what the car is for. It is known for, but not limited to, being a fantastic first car for young drivers. However, we aren't going to be talking about the regular Fiesta, I am going to introduce the Fiesta ST!

The ST is Ford's mini hot-hatch which sits in line with competitors such as the Hyundai i20N, Vauxhall Corsa VXR and Volkswagen Golf GTI. It can only come equipped with a manual gearbox, which appeals to some people, it is relatively quick and good fun to drive. The ST has stopped production but there are hundreds of used examples for sale online between £2,500 and £30,000 depending on its age, condition and mileage.

Let me run through some statistics about this car but just keep in mind the purpose of it, it is not their best hot hatch. It has a 1.5L turbo-charged engine kicking out 197bhp. It launches from 0-60 in around 6.5s and that is plenty of power and speed for its customer base. The ST is a perfect introduction to the hot-hatch world if you plan on buying something like an A45 AMG or RS3 in the future.

If you are looking for an ST, make sure to get one with a load of bells and whistles. Optional extras such as a reversing camera, heated seats and panoramic roof are things to look out for. There is one particular extra that everyone should have purchased with the car, that being the Performance pack. This pack would have been a no-brainer for me as it includes: launch control, a limited slip differential and shift lights. All of these things will make the driving experience much more enjoyable!

One huge benefit of this car is the practicality of it. It has a big enough boot and can comfortably sit 4 passengers with plenty of leg and head room. The seats are particularly comfortable, especially the Recaro seats in the front. It will do everything that you need it to do whether that's going for the weekly shop or racing your friends.

Overall, it is a brilliant little car and I would highly recommend one for drivers between 20-25 and seek a thrilling drive. It has decent fuel efficiency for a performance car, it is affordable and it looks great but the best thing about them is that there are so many around that there is bound to be one suitable for you.
